1.The manuscript presents a significant amount of data which integrate transcriptomic and metabolomic studies of the effect of nitrogen nutrition on plant metabolism. The main problem of this research is the absence of distinction of the effects of nitrate and ammonium application on plants. These effects are quite different and in some aspects opposite, therefore they should be evaluated separately for their comparison to controls. 2.Several findings in the discussion were already shown for other species but not for rice. 3.Line 278-282. The authors may not see an increase in photosynthesis with high N because te plants are to small. With a plant that small (30 days old) it seems normal that the plant did not photosynthesize more because it does not have enough sinks. If the measurements were done in flowering or fruiting plants the results probably would be different. |
