Garnets are an important constituent of the upper mantle of the Earth, and play a fundamental role in high pressure and high temperature petrogenetic processes. (Pavese et al. 2001). Therefore, an accurate knowledge of the physical properties of garnets is essential to infer appropriate compositional models for the upper mantle of the Earth. To date, the elastic properties of garnets have been studied extensively by multi-anvil apparatus and diamond anvil cell (Bass 1989; Isaak and Graham 1976; Weaver et al. 1976; Levien et al. 1979; Olijnyk et al. 1991; Bonczar and Graham 1977; Pacalo et al. 1992; Ma et al. 2007; Zhang et al. 1998, 1999; Hazen et al. 1994; Yagi et al. 1992; Leger et al. 1990; Sato et al. 1978; Takahashi and Liu 1970; Nishihara et al. 2005; Pavese et al. 2001; Morishima et al. 1999; Wang et al. 1998). But most previous studies were constrained to the elastic properties of garnets at high pressure and ambient temperature. There are few works dealing with the thermoelastic properties of garnets at high pressure and high temperature (Nishihara et al. 2005; Pavese et al. 2001; Morishima et al. 1999; Wang et al. 1998), particularly for its iron end-member, Almandine (Alm). There are no reports in the literature about the thermoelastic properties of Almandine at high pressure and high temperature.

In this paper, we report pressure-volume-temperature measurements of Almandine obtained up to pressures of 27.7 GPa in the temperature range 300-533 K. Along with the previous results (Zhang et al. 1998, 1999;Takahashi and Liu 1970; Nishihara et al. 2005; Pavese et al. 2001; Morishima et al. 1999; Wang et al. 1998; Thiéblot et al. 1998; Suzuki and Anderson 1983), the compositional dependence of the bulk modulus, thermal expansion, and temperature derivative of the bulk modulus are discussed.
