PETROLEUM PRODUCTION ENGINEERING Coursework 2 , submission date 8/05/09 Production A section of core has been recovered from a reservoir, it has been tested in the laboratory and the following data obtained. The core was first subject to solvent extraction and centrifugation. The oil and water volumes recovered were; Water 2.5ml Oil 34.5ml Next the core was coated with a thin latex membrane and immersed in water. The displacement volume was 424ml. After permeability testing the entire core was crushed to below the observed grain size and the displacement volume of the crushed material was found to be 376ml. A permeability test was conducted on the core using Water at 20oC. The mean core diameter was 60mm and the core length 150mm. The viscosity of water is taken as 1.0 x 10-3 Nsm-2. During the test a series of measurements of the flowrate at different pressure differences has been recorded as follows; Pressure difference(Bar) flow (cc/min) 1 37.8 2 75.6 3 114.5 4 144.0 The reservoir boundary pressure is 250 bar, the effective reservoir diameter is 300m and the vertical section is 50m. The production well diameter is 150mm and it is planned to operate with a well bottom pressure of 220bar. The oil viscosity is 0.25 Nsm-2, the water viscosity is 0.001 Nsm-2 and the gas viscosity is 0.2 x 10-4 Nsm-2 Determine the approximate flows of gas and oil from the well.
