Wetting phenomena govern the alloying reaction by controlling the transport mechanisms of Fe and Al atoms across the solid-liquid interface. Non-wetting of Al melts on Fe occurs when oxide phases are present on the substrate surface. Fe oxides have a major effect on wetting. |
