The world share of science and social-science papers for the People's Republic of China over a recent five-year period, expressed as a percentage of papers in each of 22 fields in the Thomson Scientific database. Also, China's relative citation impact compared to the world average in each field, in percentage terms.View the 10-year country rankings for China, 1995-June 30, 2005. Of those papers, the highest percentage appeared in journals classified under the heading of materials science, followed by physics and mathematics. As the right-hand column shows, the citations-per-paper score for materials-sciences papers from researchers in China was 22% below the world average in the field (1.80 citations per paper for China, versus a world average of 2.30 citations per paper).
