Thank you for submitting the above manuscript to Carbohydrate Polymers. I must inform you that the manuscript is not acceptable for publication in its present form, and requires major revision before it can be reconsidered for publication.
For your guidance, comments are appended below.
If you decide to revise the work, please submit an itemized list of changes which have been made in response to the reviewer's comments/suggestions or a rebuttal of why a particular comment/suggestion was not acted upon. Changes to the manuscript should be made in RED so they are distinct from the original text.In order to expedite publication of the manuscript, I would appreciate receiving the revised manuscript by Nov 26 2018 12:00AM. If the revised manuscript is not received by Nov 26 2018 12:00AM, it will be considered withdrawn.
To submit a revision, please go to https://ees.elsevier.com/carbpol/ and login as an Author.
Your username is: ******
If you need to retrieve password details, please go to: https://ees.elsevier.com/carbpol/automail_query.asp
On your Main Menu page is a folder entitled "Submissions Needing Revision". You will find your submission record there.
Please note that the revised manuscript will then be sent to reviewers for further consideration.
You must submit your revision to EES at URL https://ees.elsevier.com/carbpol/ under the original manuscript number and not as a new submission.
Please note that this journal offers a new, free service called AudioSlides: brief, webcast-style presentations that are shown next to published articles on ScienceDirect (see also https://www.elsevier.com/audioslides). If your paper is accepted for publication, you will automatically receive an invitation to create an AudioSlides presentation.
PLEASE NOTE: Carbohydrate Polymers would like to invite you to enrich your article by including a list of up to 10 names of chemical compounds studied in the article. The list of compounds will be used to extract relevant information from the NCBI PubChem Compound database and display it next to the online version of the article on ScienceDirect. To learn how this can be done please refer to the "Chemical compounds" section of the Guide for Authors or check https://www.elsevier.com/PubChem
Data in Brief (optional)
We invite you to convert your supplementary data (or a part of it) into a Data in Brief article.  Data in Brief articles are descriptions of the data and associated metadata which are normally buried in supplementary material. They are actively reviewed, curated, formatted, indexed, given a DOI and freely available to all upon publication. Data in Brief should be uploaded with your revised manuscript directly to Carbohydrate Polymers.  If your Carbohydrate Polymers research article is accepted, your Data in Brief article will automatically be transferred over to our new, fully Open Access journal, Data in Brief, where it will be editorially reviewed and published as a separate data article upon acceptance. The Open Access fee for Data in Brief is $500.
Please just fill in the template found here: https://www.elsevier.com/inca/pu ... her%20journals.docx  Then, place all Data in Brief files (whichever supplementary files you would like to include as well as your completed Data in Brief template) into a .zip file and upload this as a Data in Brief item alongside your Carbohydrate Polymers revised manuscript. Note that only this Data in Brief item will be transferred over to Data in Brief, so ensure all of your relevant Data in Brief documents are zipped into a single file.  Also, make sure you change references to supplementary material in your Carbohydrate Polymers manuscript to reference the Data in Brief article where appropriate.
Questions?  Please contact the Data in Brief publisher, Paige Shaklee at dib@elsevier.com
Example Data in Brief can be found here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/23523409
Carbohydrate Polymers features the Interactive Plot Viewer, see: https://www.elsevier.com/interactiveplots. Interactive Plots provide easy access to the data behind plots. To include one with your article, please prepare a .csv file with your plot data and test it online at https://authortools.elsevier.com/interactiveplots/verification before submission as supplementary material.
Thank you for your assistance and co-operation in the above matter. I look forward to receiving the revised manuscript.
Include interactive data visualizations in your publication and let your readers interact and engage more closely with your research. Follow the instructions here: https://www.elsevier.com/authors ... /data-visualization to find out about available data visualization options and how to include them with your article.
MethodsX file (optional)
We invite you to submit a method article alongside your research article. This is an opportunity to get full credit for the time and money you have spent on developing research methods, and to increase the visibility and impact of your work. If your research article is accepted, your method article will be automatically transferred over to the open access journal, MethodsX, where it will be editorially reviewed and published as a separate method article upon acceptance. Both articles will be linked on ScienceDirect. Please use the MethodsX template available here when preparing your article: https://www.elsevier.com/MethodsX-template. Open access fees apply.
Kind regards.

Note: While submitting the revised manuscript, please double check the author names provided in the submission so that authorship related changes are made in the revision stage. If your manuscript is accepted, any authorship change will involve approval from co-authors and respective editor handling the submission and this may cause a significant delay in publishing your manuscript.

Sample Text
Carbohydrate Polymers requires well-characterized polysaccharides with a main role in the manuscript. The authors have not determined the molecular weights of the MC and the oxidized samples, which is highly necessary, considering that TEMPO oxidation has evidenced depolimerization of the samples in previous papers. Thus, the differences in molecular weights can have a major role in the properties that the authors measure later. Besides, the authors indicate that they have calculated the amount of NaOH necessary to give an oxidation degree of 30, 50 and 100%. However, I understand that those are theoretical oxidation degrees. The experimental DO is usually different from the theoretical one. This seems to be occurring also in this work, as a small signal for C-6 is still observed in the NMR spectrum of the "fully" oxidized sample. Thus, the authors should device a method to determine the actual experimental degree of oxidation. The authors conclude that there is no oxidation of secondary hydroxyl groups; in other TEMPO oxidations, formation of ketones at C-2 were observed in small amounts. Are the authors sure that no ketone signal is appearing in the fully oxidized product? Have they tried to over-oxidize (above 100%) to see if such signals appear?
Other issues: the Abstract should carry less than 150 words.
