Ph.D. Position in Transportation Engineering at NYU Shanghai
Position Description:
The Department of Engineering and Computer Science at New York University (NYU) Shanghai seeks to recruit self-motivated Ph.D. students to join Dr. Zhibin Chen’s research group, starting from Fall Semester 2019. Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S. in Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Data Science or related fields. Strong oral and written communication skills in English are required. Candidates with research experience in network modeling and optimization and game theory are preferred.
This opportunity is made possible through a collaboration between NYU Shanghai and the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Students admitted to the program are enrolled in the NYU Tandon Ph.D. program in Transportation Planning and Engineering, will spend their first year and one or more additional semesters at NYU Tandon in New York City for Ph.D. course-work, and then transition full-time to Dr. Chen’s research group in Shanghai.
Financial aid is provided to students through the NYU Shanghai Doctoral Fellowship program, which includes tuition, fees, and an annual stipend equal to stipends received by all NYU Transportation Planning and Engineering Ph.D. students. Additional benefits include international health insurance, housing assistance in New York, and travel funds. Upon graduation, students receive New York University Ph.D. degrees.
About Dr. Zhibin Chen:
Zhibin Chen will join NYU Shanghai as an Assistant Professor Faculty Fellow of Transportation Engineering in January 2019. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, he is a Research Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His primary research interests include transportation network modeling and optimization, transportation economics, intelligent transportation system, and emerging vehicle technologies. His research has been published in series of transportation journals including Transportation Research Part B and C. He was the recipient of the Stella Dafermos Best Paper Award, and the Ryuichi Kitamura Paper Award at the 95th TRB Annual Meeting.
