Short Summary: Postdoctoral position to study the molecular basis of DNA repair, with specific reference to how oxidative stress affects the function and properties of DNA ligases in the multiple pathways of DNA repair. Job description: The Caglayan lab is interested in the molecular mechanisms of genome integrity and biological importance of DNA ligation failure by the effects of oxidative stress. In particular, the Caglayan lab has made contributions to a better understanding of the substrate channeling of repair intermediates during base excision DNA damage repair (Caglayan M. et al. Nat. Struc. Mol. Biol., 2014; Caglayan M. et al. Nucleic Acids Res., 2015; Caglayan and Wilson, DNA Repair, 2015; Caglayan M. et al. Nucleic Acids Res., 2017; Caglayan M. et al. Nat. Comm. 2017). More information can be found https://caglayan.biochem.med.ufl.edu We utilize a variety of approaches including biochemistry, enzymology, and molecular biology using purified DNA repair proteins, nuclear and mitochondrial cell extracts, mouse embryonic fibroblast cells, and yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) cells. Candidates should have obtained a PhD or an MD/PhD degree in the fields of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline. The candidate should have evidence of prior productive scientific work in the form of publications in peer-reviewed journals. A strong experimental background with evidence of experimental skills related to cell biology is mandatory. The candidates must have extensive experience in CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, cell survival or sensitivity assays after treatment with DNA damage inducing agents and small molecule inhibitors. Previous working experience with cell cultures of mouse embryonic fibroblasts is preferred. The successful applicant will be given sufficient academic freedom to develop an innovative research program that aligns with general lab interests and can provide a foundation for pursuing an independent career. Email caglayanm@ufl.edu your Curriculum Vitae, a cover letter describing their background and research interests, and three people who can provide letters of recommendations. |
