PHD STUDENT AND POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITIONS TAMPERE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, FINLAND COMPUTATIONAL STATISTICAL PHYSICS OF MATERIALS The newly established research group at the Laboratory of Physics, Tampere University of Technology (TUT), Finland lead by Prof. Lasse Laurson invites applications for one PhD student position and one postdoctoral researcher position in the field of computational statistical physics of materials. The successful applicants are expected to work on topics related but not limited to complexity in plastic deformation of crystalline solids (dislocation dynamics) and/or domain wall dynamics in disordered ferromagnets using advanced numerical simulation techniques, including also machine learning. The results will be analyzed and interpreted using the concepts and tools of modern non-equilibrium statistical physics. You will play an important role in solving some of the most fundamental problems in non-equilibrium physics in collaboration with our national and international partners. Our activities on domain wall dynamics are also affiliated with Helsinki Institute of Physics (HIP), see www.hip.fi/dwd. For more examples of our research, see orcid.org/0000-0001-6627-3915. Candidates for the PhD student position should have received or will soon receive a M.Sc. degree in physics, materials science or a related discipline. The PhD student position is for 4 years. You are expected to complete the PhD degree requirements and defend your PhD thesis within this appointment duration. Candidates for the postdoctoral researcher’s position should have received or will soon receive a PhD degree in physics, materials science or a related discipline. The postdoctoral researcher’s position is for two years. Solid data analysis and programming skills as well as knowledge of statistical physics are beneficial for both positions. The starting date can be negotiated but is foreseen to be soon after September 1 st , 2018. The applications are welcomed immediately.
