Two postdoctoral fellow positions will be available in the laboratory (opening June 2018) of Dr. Sang-Ging Ong in the Department of Pharmacology and the Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine in the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Using rodent models and iPSC technology, the Ong lab seeks to understand the molecular and biological mechanisms underlying various cardiovascular diseases through cellular, genetic, and biochemical approaches. We are particularly interested in cardiometabolic diseases with a focus on mitochondrial biology. Additional research areas include cardioprotection strategies against ischemic damage including cell & gene therapy, microRNAs, and exosomes. The Ong lab is stably supported by the National Institutes of Health, and Institutional funding. Relevant publications can be found at https://scholar.google.com/citat ... AAAJ&hl=en. The Department of Pharmacology has strong research and training programs (http://mcph.uic.edu/home) and consistently ranks among the top 10 nationwide both in terms of NIH research funding and subject ranking. Requirements: PhD or MD/PhD degree (graduating soon or graduated within a year) Candidates must have extensive experience in molecular biology, cardiovascular and stem cell biology, transgenic mouse models, and genome-editing techniques. Having experience in novel technologies (e.g. omics technologies, non-coding RNAs) is a big plus but not a must. A strong record of peer-reviewed research papers with at least two first-author publications in reputable journals. Excellent verbal and written skills in English are required. Candidates must be independent yet collaborative, self-motivated, and driven with a desire to pursue a career as an independent academic scientist within the next 5 years. This position requires a strong commitment to the projects and certain flexibility to work irregular hours (e.g., evenings and weekends), but it offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research in an intellectually stimulating environment using state-of-the-art facilities. Interested candidates are welcome to contact Dr. Ong at sangging@uic.edu for informal discussion. To apply, please send a CV, a page of research experience and future interests, expected availability, and a list of 3 references to Dr. Ong at sangging@uic.edu. The University of Illinois conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of contingent offer of employment. Background checks will be performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The University of Illinois at Chicago is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. |
