[交流] Three Post-Doctoral positions at the University of Virginia

Three Post-Doctoral Research Associates are needed in the laboratory of Dr. Huiwang Ai (https://med.virginia.edu/ai-lab/) in the Center for Membrane and Cell Physiology at the University of Virginia.

The mission of this research team is to engineer novel molecular imaging probes to peer into cells and brains to understand their communications. The team is looking for Post-Doctoral Research Associates with the following expertise:

Position 1: Protein Engineering. This person will develop genetically encoded fluorescent and bioluminescent biosensors. Minimal requirements are: (1) A PhD degree or the equivalent (or the completion of all degree requirements) in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or similar field; (2) two or more first-author publications in reputable journals (impact factor > 2); (3) more than 3 years of experience in viral engineering, phage display, yeast surface display, fluorescent proteins, or directed enzyme/antibody evolution; (4) more than 3 years of experiences in molecular cloning, gene library construction, and/or screening. Preferred requirements are: (1) experience in live-cell imaging (confocal, super-resolution, TIRF, etc.); (2) experience in stem cell or cancer cell biology.

Position 2: Neurobiology. This person will apply genetically encoded fluorescent and bioluminescent biosensors for brain activity imaging. Minimal requirements are: (1) A PhD degree or the equivalent (or the completion of all degree requirements) in neuroscience or other closely related fields; (2) one or more first-author publications in reputable journals (impact factor > 2); (3) Demonstrated expertise in standard and advanced neuronal electrophysiology recordings and rodent surgical procedures). Preferred requirements are: (1) expertise in neurotransmission, neuromodulation, and GPCR-based signaling; (2) experiences in mouse models, imaging and morphological analyses, and animal behavior experiments.

Position 3: Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Imaging. This person will couple genetically encoded fluorescent biosensors with live-cell microscopy (confocal, super-resolution, TIRF, FLIM, etc.) for the understanding of redox and metabolic signaling in cancer and/or diabetes. Minimal requirements are: (1) A PhD degree or the equivalent (or the completion of all degree requirements) in Cell Biology, Bioengineering, or similar field; (2) two or more first-author publications in reputable journals (impact factor > 2); (3) more than 3 years of experience in cell biology and fluorescence microscopy. Preferred requirements are: (1) experience in molecular cloning; (2) experience in cancer cell biology, insulin signaling, or beta cell function; (3) experience in microscopy instrumentation.

The successful applicants will perform high-profile, NIH-funded research in an interdisciplinary research group, which interacts closely with Departments of Molecular Biophysics & Biological Physics, Chemistry, and Biomedical Engineering, the Neuroscience Graduate Program, the UVA Cancer Center, and the UVA Charles O. Strickler Transplant Center.

The Post-Doctoral Research Associates will work independently and collaboratively under the guidance of Dr. Ai, spending approximately 90% of the time conducting experiments and analyzing data, 5% on training graduate students, and 5% on writing manuscripts and grants. It is expected that the Research Associates will report research progress regularly in lab and collaborative meetings, present results and solicit input at local, national, and international conferences in the form of posters or oral presentations, and prepare figures and text for manuscripts with the PI's input.

To apply, please send emails to huiwang.ai@virginia.edu. Applicants should send a cover letter (including a short statement of research interest), CV (including a publication list), and contact information for three references.

Multiple positions available at the University of Virginia School of Medicine:

2-3 postdoc positions are available in the lab of Prof. Ai at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Center for Membrane and Cell Physiology.
Biological signaling occurs at different levels, but basic processes are largely chemically based. The mission of our research team is to engineer novel molecular imaging probes to peer into cells and brains to understand their communications. We are looking for postdoctoral fellows with the following expertise:
1. Molecular biology, with previous experiences in molecular cloning, gene library construction, and/or screening. Experiences in viral engineering, phage display, yeast surface display, fluorescent proteins, or directed protein/enzyme/antibody evolution are preferred.
2. Cell Biology/Imaging. We hope to hire a cell biologist with extensive experience in live-cell imaging (confocal, super-resolution, TIRF, etc.). Previous experience with stem cell or cancer cell biology is preferred.
3. Neurobiology. We hope to hire a postdoc fellow with strong expertise in neurobiology, such as neurotransmission, neuromodulation, and GPCR-based signaling. Minimal requirements: 1) A Ph.D. degree (or the equivalent) in neuroscience or other closely related fields. 2) Demonstrated expertise in standard and advanced neuronal electrophysiology recordings and rodent surgical procedures. Experiences in mouse models, imaging and morphological analyses, and animal behavior experiments are preferred.
The to-be-hired researchers are expected to be self-motivated. Please send your CV (education history and publication list), and contact information for three references to huiwang.ai@virginia.edu. In addition, please in the email indicate your research interest, and how you fit our research program. We thank all applicants; however, only selected individuals will be contacted.
We offer:         o The possibility to work on cutting-edge projects
o A stimulating, diverse and international research environment
o Advanced training opportunities
o Career development
o Competitive salary and benefits

The successful applicants will perform high-profile, NIH-funded research in an interdisciplinary research group, which interacts closely with Departments of Molecular Biophysics & Biological Physics, Chemistry, and Biomedical Engineering, the Neuroscience Graduate Program, the UVA Cancer Center, and the UVA Charles O. Strickler Transplant Center.
UVA was established by the American Founding Father Thomas Jefferson in 1819. It is considered as one of the top 3 public universities in the U.S. (among UC Berkeley and UCLA). The UVA medical school is ranked #27 for research by US News with 3 previous Nobel Prize winners. The UVA Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics has a long tradition of excellence. When comparing the NIH funding of physiology departments in the United States, the UVA Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics ranked 8th to 13th over the last 8 years. UVA has an excellent environment to conduct research!
Charlottesville is a town two-hour drive from Washington DC and one-hour from Richmond. It is centrally located in the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the former home of three of America's founding fathers. Charlottesville is suffused with an appreciation of history and intellectual vigor. Charlottesville's rich cultural, natural, and artistic history is showcased in a selection of first-rate museums, galleries, wineries, shops, and parks dispersed throughout the area.
