| You are very welcome. I think the most important thing is GRE, then TOEFL. The minimun GRE is 1100. If you want an assistantship,you would need at least 1200. Many students who receive an assistantship has a 1300. However, most applicants from China have extremely high GREs, so for them (and you) their TOEFL is very important, too. In the old scoring system, we expect at least 600 (250 in the new system), and much higher for those who want an assistantship (630 or 267). I understand that TOEFL just came up with even a newer format, but I don't know what its scoring system will be. Many programs do not have research assistantships (RA) for Master's students. You would need to compete for teaching assistantships (TA) with American students. It is relatively rare for international students to get TA assignments. They need to demonstrate that their English is very good, that is why TOEFL and GRE scores are important for them (and you). ... Most U.S. programs do not understand, or care about, oversea GPAs. They probably care more about the reputation of an applicant's institution. ... When (if) you contact White-American professors in the future, please remember to do your best to make sure there is no grammatical errors in your e-mail. I understand that we tend to be rather casual when we compose email messages,but if you want a teaching assistantship, please be very careful about what you write. Some professors are very picky.... |
