Measurements Duration of the surgery (in minutes) and intraoperative bleeding (in milliliters) were measured from the first forceps use to the final nasal packing with alginate dressings. Intraoperative bleeding was calculated by the volume of aspiration after removal of the volume of intraoperative saline irrigation. The blood loss was correlated to the blood mass of the patient to define a rate of intraoperative bleeding (percentage). This rate of intraoperative bleeding was divided by the duration of the surgery.
