Job Title: Doctoral Student in Thermal Management of Energy-Efficient Data Centers Department: Mechanical Engineering Institution: Villanova University, Villanova, PA Application Deadline: October 1, 2017 Position Start Date: January 1, 2018 The Center for Energy-Smart Electronic Systems, a National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC), works in partnership with government, industry and academia to develop systematic methodologies for efficiently operating electronic systems, including data centers, by controlling resources and managing workloads to achieve optimal energy consumption. This center includes collaboration between four universities (Villanova University, Binghamton University, Georgia Tech, and the University of Texas at Arlington) and dozens of leading IT industrial firms including Verizon, Comcast, and Facebook. Members of ES2 meet regularly to discuss the 18 current projects focused on reducing data center energy consumption. The requirement for the position is a Masters of Science (MS) degree in an engineering discipline. A thesis-based MS degree in the thermal sciences is preferred. The following characteristics are highly desired for the position: 1. Experience in technical communication, including journal articles, conference papers, and conference presentations. 2. Experience in advanced engineering mathematics, including aspects of advanced calculus, ordinary differential equations, and partial differential equations. 3. Experience in MATLAB programming. 4. Experience in engineering modeling and simulation.
