RESEARCH POSTGRADUATE POSITION(PhD and MPhil) AT THE HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY Dear potential students, Please, I would like to draw your attention to Research Postgraduate position (PhD and MPhil) in the Department of Building Services Engineering (BSE) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU). The successful candidates will work on the research in sustainable facility engineering & management (more specifically, building energy and environmental performance from a city’s viewpoint) and intelligent decision-support system. The following projects are in progress. • A Real-Time-based Monitoring and Diagnostics for Building performance: focused on the nexus of energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and human behaviour ("RT-M&D-Building"  , '17.1 ~ '19.12 (Grants), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong.• Intelligent Planning System for the Distributed Solar Generation in the net-Zero Energy Buildings ("IP-DSG" (2nd year), '17.6 ~ '18.5 (Grants), The Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning (MSIP), South Korea.• Development of Internet of Things (IoT) - based Multi-Function Smart Window by Integrating Solar PV Blind and Active Ventilation System toward Zero Energy Building (2nd year), '17.6 ~ '18.4 (Grants), The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), South Korea and Hong Kong (International Collaborative Research). • A Real-Time Monitoring and Diagnostics for Energy Efficiency and Indoor Environmental Quality in Hotel ICON ("RT-M&D-Hotel ICON" , '18.1 ~ '19.12 (Grants), Hotel ICON Research Projects, Hong Kong.• A Real-Time Monitoring and Diagnostics for Energy Efficiency and Indoor Environmental Quality in the Student Halls (HoManTin) ("RT-M&D-Student Halls " , '18.1 ~ '19.12, Hong Kong.For more detailed information, please refer to the website(https://www.bse.polyu.edu.hk/People/Choongwan_Koo/index.html). Eligibility: • The Research Postgraduate position (PhD and MPhil) will be starting from Sep. 2018, but the application should be submitted by 31 December 2017. • Successful candidate for PhD position should have aMSc degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution or be expected to obtain it before Sep. 2018. If you are interested in MPhil position, you should have a BSc degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. • Successful candidate should be interested in occupant engagement and building energy &environmental performance,real-time monitoring and diagnostics, urban sustainability policy, predictive and prescriptive analytics, data mining & machine learning, data visualization, and simulation modeling techniques(but not limited). Benefit: • A monthly stipend of HK$15,700 will be provided during the normal study period of the student. The student has to pay a tuition fee of HK$42,100 per year. • Full-time students are eligible for one year of residence in the Student Hall, subject to the availability. The students needto submit application to secure a place as soon as possible. • Full-time students are eligible for the services of the PolyU University Health Service.
