RESPONSIBILITIES: The 2017 university ratings by U.S. News & World Report rank Arizona State University (ASU or Arizona State) No. 1 among the Most Innovative Schools in America for the second year in a row. ASU ranks #129 in national universities, #61 in public schools, and #42 in best engineering schools by USNEWS. The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (https://engineering.asu.edu/) at ASU anticipates hiring multiple research assistants (RAs) with specialization in advanced manufacturing at the level of Ph.D. degree starting September 2017, January 2018 or September 2018. The RAs are expected to join SONG Laboratory of Novel Advanced Composite Materials (https://sites.google.com/site/kenansonglab/) with waived tuitions and support of life stipends (ASU’s equivalent of a fully supported research assistantship). Students with background of Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanics, or, Materials Science especially Polymer Engineering are strongly encouraged to contact the PI for the openings. Candidates are expected to be self-motivated, team-oriented, and rich in hands-on experience, including but not limited to: • Mechanical design of experimental set-up, • Manufacturing at nano-micro-macro scale, and, • Test of material physical and chemical properties (i.e., mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical, morphological, topographical, rheological, tribological, surfacial and interfacial interactions) and usage of scientific tools (i.e., DMA, DSC, TGA, UV-Vis, SEM, TEM, AFM, triboindenter, rheometer, goniometer, tensiometer, profilometer, FTIR, Raman, WAXD, SAXS, SANS), as well as, • Expertise in modeling/simulation tools (i.e., Finite Element Method using ANSYS/ABAQUS/COMSOL, Molecular Dynamics using MATLAB/LAMMPS) REQUIRED SKILLS A B.S. or Master degree in engineering or related field is required by the time of appointment. MATERIALS: Candidates should provide the following: 1. Cover letter summarizing their qualifications and concise research plan with short-term and long-term study goals; 2. Curriculum vitae of professional development including, but not limited to, the research experience, teaching experience, English tests (i.e., TOEFL, GRE), and academic awards; 3. Contact information of at least three references.
