NAFLD and its association with metabolic syndrome
Call for Papers
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) encompasses a wide spectrum of liver disorders ranging from simple accumulation of fat (steatosis) to steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis, and eventual cirrhosis, which increase the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and may ultimately lead to liver-related death. NAFLD is now rising at an alarming rate and currently becomes the predominant cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. Because of its increasing prevalence, difficulties in diagnosis, complex pathogenesis, and lack of approved therapies, NAFLD has emerged as a worldwide health concern and a major challenge, gradually. Although achievements have been made in this field in recent years, knowledge on the development and progression of NAFLD is still incomplete. Substantial evidence demonstrates a strong association between NAFLD and the features of metabolic syndrome, such as obesity, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, hypertension, and insulin resistance. However, factors linking NAFLD with metabolic syndrome and the underlying mechanisms of these connections have not been fully elucidated. Thus, enhancing the knowledge on the development and progression of NAFLD could provide further insights into the understanding of the pathogenesis of NAFLD and metabolic syndrome, which may give a reliable basis for new prevention and treatment strategies for these diseases.
We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles to share the knowledge on NAFLD and the association between NAFLD and metabolic syndrome, with a particular interest in mechanistic insights into these processes. Besides, the insights into prevention and treatment of NAFLD, such as nutritional interventions, are also welcomed.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
Development of hepatic steatosis
Progression from steatosis to more advanced stages of NAFLD (i.e., NASH, liver fibrosis, and cirrhosis)
Association between NAFLD and features of metabolic syndrome (i.e., insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and obesity)
Prevention and treatment of NAFLD
Nutritional intervention of NAFLD
Potential role of environmental contaminants in NAFLD
Authors can submit their manuscripts through the Manuscript Tracking System at https://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/cjgh/hepatology/nams/.
Submission Deadline Friday, 3 November 2017
Publication Date March 2018
Papers are published upon acceptance, regardless of the Special Issue publication date.
