Immunometabolic Disorders and Liver Diseases
Call for Papers

The prevalence of metabolic liver diseases (MLD) is increasing dramatically in both developing and industrialized countries, causing a big burden to society. MLD is largely attributed to unhealthy lifestyle choices, including caloric-over-consumption, lack of exercise, and circadian rhythm disruption. Notably, unresolved metabolic disorders, accompanied by chronic inflammation, will cause liver damage and fibrosis and eventually promote hepatocellular carcinoma. Therefore, elucidation of mechanisms underlying MLD progression together with development of efficient therapeutic strategies against it is essential and urgent.

In recent years, a noticeable number of findings have unveiled the modulation of metabolic homeostasis by the immune system. In the setting of MLD, metabolic stress (e.g., liver steatosis, hypoxia) predisposes liver cells to injury caused by dysregulated inflammatory responses and aberrant cytokine production, which in turn exacerbates metabolic comorbidities. Accordingly, intrahepatic immune cells as well as hepatic inflammatory pathways are promising targets for strategies against MLD. This special issue is to promote the researches that investigate the interplay between inflammatory/immune pathways and metabolic liver diseases, which will provide novel insights into this emerging field. Research articles and reviews relating to liver metabolism, inflammation, and immunity are especially encouraged to be submitted to this special issue.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

Hepatic glucose/lipid disorders and immune response
Alcoholic liver disease and immune responses
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and immune responses
MLD and liver inflammation
MLD and liver injury/fibrosis
Epidemiological studies of MLD and immune system
Clinical studies involved in MLD and immune responses
Pharmaceutical investigation of MLD treatment
