Murray, Editor in Chief of Analytical Chemistry and Kenan Professor of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (UNC), has been awarded the 2008 Southern Chemist Award, sponsored by the Memphis local section of the American Chemical Society. The award honors distinguished service and contributions to the chemical profession that have brought recognition to the southern U.S. Murray’s research accomplishments span the breadth of electrochemistry with applications in electrocatalysis, chemical sensors, long-distance electron transfer, and polymer design and dynamics. Prof. Royce W. MurrayIn his almost 50 year career, Murray has published well over 400 research articles, mentored more than 140 Ph.D. and M.S. students and postdocs, and written an editorial almost every month since becoming Editor in 1991. He also became a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 1991. Over the course of his career, Murray has been involved in the planning and development of new science facilities at UNC. As a tribute to his years of service to the university, the quad in the new Carolina Physical Science Complex will be named after him; construction is expected to be completed by the spring. |
