Background & Role
The School of Electronic Engineering in DCU engages in research, amongst other fields, in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), bringing an engineering perspective to this research. It is one of the participants in the INPUT project (http://www.input-project.eu/), a research project funded by Horizon 2020. The project goal is to design and implement a novel infrastructure to support Future Internet personal cloud services, using Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualisation (NFV). The DCU team is centrally involved in the architectural design, the extension of SDN/NFV to support it, and its implementation in a working prototype.
DCU has a strong track record in attracting both Irish and European Union funding under FP7, Horizon 2020, Marie Curie Actions and Erasmus. We offer a dynamic and internationally focused environment in which to advance your academic career.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to his/her Principal Investigator the Fellow will:
 Conduct a specified programme of research under the supervision and direction of the Principal Investigator.
 Contribute to software development and/or firmware design to support the research programme.
 Contribute to, co-ordinate and edit deliverables relevant to the research programme.
 Lead a work package of the research programme involving an international team.
 Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research in which he/she is engaged with the support of and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
 Supervise and assist undergraduate and postgraduate students working in this area with their research.
 Carry out administrative work associated with the programme of research as necessary.
 Assist in identifying and developing future research and funding initiatives.
 Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders including industry and academic partners/collaborators.
Minimum Criteria
Applicants should have a PhD and 4 years relevant experience in a cognate discipline, such as computer networks or telecommunications, and research or industrial experience appropriate to appointment to a fellow grade.
Candidates whose expertise primarily relates to wireless networking must have an in-depth knowledge of backhaul networks.
In addition, it is desirable that the candidate has:
 Experience in one or more of the fields of network function virtualisation, software-defined networking, and VHDL/Verilog, especially as applied to FGGA design.
 Previous exposure to working in international research teams.
 Demonstrated skills in the design, management and conduct of research.
 A high level of interpersonal and team working skills.
 Strong report writing, time management skills and ability to work to deadlines.
 Good presentation and academic article writing skills would also be desirable.
Salary: ?51,716 - ?56,442
Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Managing & Leadership skills - Demonstrates the potential to manage a research project including the supervision of undergraduate students.
