Tennessee Technological University - PhD Positions in Optics Manufacturing

Two PhD Student Position Openings (2017 Fall) Precision Engineering Group (PEG, Dr. ChaBum Lee's Group) https://sites.google.com/site/precisionengineeringlab/ The PEG is pursuing the research to understand fundamental principles in multidisciplinary discipline subjects and create next generation manufacturing methods and processes by using our core knowledge in manufacturing, precision engineering, metrology, mechatronics, and optics and academia and industry experiences. Our primary academic interests are developing precision engineering-inspired approaches to manufacturing and metrology and, reciprocally, to use these approaches to better understand learning and create new knowledge in precision machine systems. PEG invites applications from one highly motivated graduates seeking to undertake a PhD to work with Dr. ChaBum Lee on the following projects: • On-machine freeform surface metrology for optics manufacturing • Fiber-optic sensor for dimensional metrology for optics manufacturing This is the NSF-funded project with starting date of Jun 2017 for 3 years. Tuition, stipend, and travel for conferences will be covered by this funding. Required background & knowledge: experimental skills, electric circuit design, signal processing, precision machine design, optical/laser metrology, control and mechanical system identification, optics or optical engineering. We will encourage international students to apply for the positions. Two positions are now available or from Aug. 2017.
