The Georgia Prevention Institute (GPI) at Augusta University (AU) is noted for its excellence in basic science research programs. In the GPI, AU is also noted for its support of the community, as well as innovative research in both the community setting and in improving patient care through laboratory studies. Our research on mechanisms related to disease has transitioned from observational studies to clinical trials based on our initial findings. Our continued growth and development will allow us to continue serving the community in disease prevention and treatment. The GPI is currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work with Dr. Yanbin Dong, Regents’ Professor (ydong@augusta.edu) and Associate Director, on human research projects to study cardiometabolic disease and risk factors including hypertension, inflammation, immune dysfunction as well as genetics and epigenetics. As a leading research institute at Augusta University, there will be opportunities both to work on existing projects and to develop new projects addressing relevant research topics. This postdoctoral fellow position is a training position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific technical and administrative work in support of research efforts in a clinical research setting. The successful candidate will participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; present research findings at national and international meetings; and publish results in scientific journals. This position also entails developing grant proposals, study design, protocol development, and statistical or bioinformatics analysis. Skills and experiences with epidemiological/statistical approaches, population cohort studies, secondary analyses, or clinical trials or omics would be preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential in order to (1) interact effectively with members of the scientific community, (2) facilitate the acquisition and description of scientific data, (3) effectively provide documentation and specifications to coworkers during protocol development, and (4) contribute to publications and tutorials. Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university.
