5) Recently, there has been many research activities in the field of NIR to visible light upper-conversion using rare earth doped nanocrystals. This is mainly because its huge application potential in biofluorescence, laser devices, solar cells and 3-D colored display, etc. The combination of noble metal surface Plasmon resonance coupled with rare earth upper-conversion material is a very effective method to enhance the efficiency of light emission by upper-conversion. We synthesized the compound structure of noble metal-rare earth nano materials through a unique method. We found that it is important to control the reaction temperature, particle size, and reaction time to improve the field enhancement effect of noble metal. We also found that increased sizes of metal nanoparticles led to increased ratio between scattering and absorption. One can carefully adjust the location (or position) of LSPR in order to match it with excitation field. By lowing (or reducing) the power density of the excitation light , we can suppress the saturation effect and local heat effect. All these variables are crucial to achieve a significant enhancement of UCL. |
