瑞典皇家理工学院(KTH)结构生物学组 Carsten Mim招聘博士

Carsten Mim教授是德国人,从事冷冻电镜结构生物学研究,目前在瑞典皇家理工学院任职 膜蛋白是重要的蛋白,膜蛋白及其相互作用的配体蛋白具有广阔的研究空间,目前Carsten主要采用冷冻电镜的方法研究膜蛋白及其与膜的相互作用,现在这个项目有很多国际交流的机会,发好文章是很有希望的。以下是他给大家的简要介绍: The compartmentalization of the cell into ‘outside’ and ‘inside’ is a prerequisite for life. But it creates a conundrum, because the cell must interact with its environment. The fact that more than half the mass of the cell membrane is protein bears witness to this necessity. Membrane proteins do not act in isolation, but are part of an extensive network, which has become accessible by recent technical advances that helped discover novel interactions and components of membrane scaffolds. The interface between membranes and soluble compartments remains largely resistant to structural exploration, limiting our ability to effectively target membrane-associated processes for the development of cures. Electron microscopy has emerged as a powerful tool to visualize membrane proteins, their scaffolds and their interaction with the bilayer. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn purification of membrane proteins and strategies to overcome difficulties in sample preparation of these challenging molecules. This project is collaboration, which complements the structural studies with cell biological expertise. With this skill set in mind we will be able to design structure function experiments to test novel interaction interfaces with the membrane. The candidate will have the opportunity to communicate his/her results on international conferences and ultimately through publication in internationally renowned journals. (Menbrane protein is of great importance, the interface between membranes and compartments remains largely to structural exploration.
