Someone (A) shared a story with me. He has a discussion with his Professor regarding a project proposal, and the conversation is showed below: A: Hello Professor XX, I want to use compound 1 for the project. It has been published on JACS, should be very reliable. Professor: No, it is too complicated. A: ... Professor: Why don't you use one of the compound (2) I published 20 years ago? A: 1 has been proved to be potent and non-toxic. 2 may cause some side effects. Professor: No, just check 2 and write it in your proposal. A: .... Professor: Show it to me next time. Here is what we think he really meant: A: Hello Professor XX, I want to use compound 1 for the project. It has been published on JACS, should be very reliable. Professor: No, use my compound. A: ... Professor: Just use my compound. A: 1 has been proved to be potent and non-toxic. 2 may cause some side effects. Professor: If you don't use my compound, how can I help you during the defense?
