2016 - 09 - 04 Today I visit around Princeton. It's quite a different place than most other universities I've been worked or studied at. It's a small town, but filled with energetic people: fresh undergraduate students, their parents, grocery sellers, football team players, even bus drivers. There isn't any tall building, and it's far away from big cities; however the transport is much simpler than other universities in small town like Cornell: from Princeton to New York City one would only spend less than 2 hours via a hourly departing train, where from Cornell it typically takes more than 3 hours (Cornell is even in NY state while Princeton is in NJ). I'm going to visit Prof. J-T tomorrow. He is in EE department; however, his work is pure atomic physics. Perhaps Princeton itself dislikes to put so many AMO in Physics department, which is also the reason I have seen many optics professor in EE rather than Physics. I have to read more about his paper, so that our discussion would be meaningful. The technique I have already been familiar, while the physics picture is still a little bit vague to me. Hopefully I can understand today. |
