PhD in Process Analytical Technology (PAT) for Crystallization of Pharmaceutical Products

A PhD position is available in the crystallization research group in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Environmental Technology, Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark. The PhD position is available from 1st of October or as soon as possible thereafter.

The PhD position is part of a consortium research project ProPharm funded by Danish Council for Independent Research. The PhD is expected to conduct research on developing Process Analytical Technology (PAT) for modeling and control of the crystallization process for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The aim is to develop PAT platform based on a multi-sensor system and a multivariable data analysis algorithm to generate data for parameter estimation and validation of predictive models and advanced process monitoring and quality control.

The PhD fellow will work in close collaboration with the partners of the consortium project both in Denmark and international. We offer a challenging position in an international and stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure for crystalline product characterization and Process Analytical Technologies (PAT), and an excellent opportunity for collaboration both within SDU and with renowned international research groups.

Requirements to complete a PhD at SDU
- Complete a study programme of 30 ECTS points
- Participate in teaching and dissemination of science (e.g. conferences)
- Carry out an external research stay (max. nine months).
- Complete a PhD thesis including three scientific publications, all in three years
- Publicly defend your PhD

The successful applicant should have:
 A MSc degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline
 A strong background on industrial crystallization or other industrial separation    technologies
 English either native or full professional proficiency
 Good collaboration and communication skills
 Interest in co-supervising BSc, and MSc students connected to the project

Application, salary and conditions of employment etc.
The PhD Fellowship is a 3-year position (5+3).

A 5+3 PhD Fellowship is a three-year salaried position. Enrollment and employment ends automatically by the end of the period. The holder of the fellowship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

Employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2015.
The faculty expects the applicants to have read the information on the PhD study at The Faculty of Engineering and on the general PhD work and salary conditions before applying.

Verified official transcripts of exams in English or Danish translation and verified copy of bachelor diploma and master’s diploma - All documentation must be officially translated into English or Danish. Each page of the copy must be stamped with the original stamp of the verifying institution and added the text: “True copy of the original document” and signed with a blue pen.
