The internationally renowned Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and the Research Centre for Molecular Imaging and Screening at the Medical Faculty of the Saarland University has two open PhD positions. Our primary research interest is the understanding of signal transduction mechanisms during human cardiac diseases with particular focus on Gq-protein coupled signalling, calcium signalling and signalling via protein kinases C. In an international team of researchers, we address those questions in a highly interdisciplinary approach employing e.g. ultra-high speed single and multi-photon confocal imaging, photolysis of caged compounds, patch-clamp, viral gene transfer into cells and animals, echocardiography, telemetric electrocardiography and blood pressure recordings within transgenic animal models. We are national and international partners in various third-party funded (DFG-CRC, EU, etc.) research centres.

The Institute for Molecular Cell Biology is actively seeking PhD students with either a good understanding of cellular fluorescence microscopy or cellular electrophysiology to strengthen DFG (German Science Foundation) funded project (CRC-SFB894; https://sfb894.uni-saarland.de/en/start/ und https://sfb894.uni-saarland.de/en/projects/a19-lipp/) in which we study the role of a specific activation of Gq-proteins in the heart on the molecular, cellular, tissue and whole animal level.

The Institute for Molecular Cell Biology offers a PhD at the forefront of international cardiac research with innovative imaging and biophysical techniques in a highly motivated, active international team of researchers.
