Abstract:
In order to assess the pollution level of heavy metals (Pb, Cr, Cd, Hg, As, Cu, Fe and Zn) in the sediments from Baihua Lake, the sediment samples were collected at 15 sampling locations were analyzed in this investigation. The results showed that the variations in the concentrations of Fe, Zn, Hg, As and Pb were large, and that Fe, Zn, Hg and As were all high for the sampling location Yueliangwan. According to the results of the individual pollution index, the major part of Baihua Lake was polluted to different degrees by Hg, As, Cd and Zn. The integrated pollution index of each sampling location ranged from 1.13 to 41.66, and Yueliangwan, Jinyinshan and Laojiutu were the most polluted among all the sampling locations. Their integrated pollution indices were 41.66, 18.27 and 9.61, respectively. Since the Hg and As pollution was the heaviest in sediments, the control of these two heavy metals pollution became particularly important for this lake. © 2016 Taylor and Francis Group, London.(15 refs)
