Title: Sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SiF) and canopy photosynthesis: observation, modeling and remote sensing

Job description:

The Environmental Ecology Lab at Seoul National University is seeking one postdoctoral fellow to study sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence and canopy photosynthesis. This project aims to upscale SiF from leaf to canopy to regional scales, understand the relationships between SiF and canopy photosynthesis, and monitor canopy photosynthesis from satellite SiF observations. The postdoctoral fellow will 1) conduct in-situ observations of canopy SiF in a paddy rice and a deciduous broadleaf forest where flux towers are co-located, 2) improve canopy SiF model, and 3) evaluate satellite based SiF products. The candidate will be responsible in conducting weekly field trips, attending international meeting to report our findings, and writing scientific papers.

Qualifications:

A PhD in biometeorology, remote sensing, ecophysiology or a related field is required. Strong background in leaf traits, canopy structure, photosynthesis and SiF are required. Applicants should have strong analytical and quantitative skills in processing and analyzing large volume of remote sensing data, and in-depth knowledge in scientific programming language (ideally, MATLAB or R) and Linux system. Moderate to excellent skills in English are expected. Past experience in analyzing eddy flux tower data is preferred. Driving license is essential.

General information:

Seoul National University is located in the Gwanak Mountain, southern part of the Seoul City in South Korea. Numerous mountain trails are accessible in the campus whereas “Gangnam”, the center of amusement in Seoul, is within 30 min. There are diverse groups of international students/scholars (currently, 2800 international students/scholars are enrolled). There is a dormitory for international scholars.

This is a 1-year position. Pending successful performance, the position may be renewed up to 3 years. The position is available immediately.
