In a typical synthesis, 3 g of NaOH, 50 mL of oleic acid, 10 mL of ethanol, and 5 mL of deionized water were mixed together in a beaker, to which 12mL of NaF (1 M) aqueous solution and 12.5 mL of gadolinium nitrate stock solution (0.1 M) were added with vigorous stirring.
