To separate nitrogen and oxygen, carbon adsorbents should have selectivity and it comes from the difference in adsorption velocity. Figs. 6 and 7 show the diffusion rate to the CMS of oxygen and nitrogen. Oxygen is adsorbed rapidly while nitrogen exhibits a relatively slow adsorption. During long-time diffusional uptake in Fig. 7, the fractional uptake of nitrogen yields almost linear tendency.
