BIH'16 reflects that brain informatics has emerged as a distinct field and crosses the disciplines of neuroscience, cognitive science, computer science, signal processing, and neuroimaging technologies as well as data science. Following the success of past conferences in this series, BIH'16 will take place at Hilton Omaha, Omaha, Nebraska and will gather researchers from major international brain research projects, and other related fields. BIH'16 also has plans for an industrial exhibition. Since BIH'16 will be co-located with the International Conference on Web Intelligence (WI'16, https://wibih.unomaha.edu/wi), it draws special attention to the synergy of informatics for brain science, brain health and the Web. BIH'16 will address big data approaches to both the brain and health; strong emphasis will be on emerging trends of big data analysis and management technology for BI and real-world applications for brain and mental health. Complementing these goals, BIH'16 will showcase computational models of the brain to inspire future Web Intelligence algorithms and methodologies as well as their applications on the Web. As part of BIH'16, we welcome proposals for tutorials, workshops and high-end special sessions on related topics. *** Topics of Interest *** In addition to the topics of interest included on the Call for Papers, for the workshops/tutorials, we are interested in the topics listed below: - Big Data techniques for neuroimaging and neural recording applications - Neurogenetics - Data management and sharing for neuroscience - Data analytic techniques in brain diseases and health - Computational neuroscience - Brain-inspired intelligence research - Dendritic Computing - Neuromorphic/neuroinspired computing - Mental health, including neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases - Computing for the brain and with the brain - Clinical neuroscience and applications *** Submission Process *** Tutorial/symposium/special session organizers should submit their proposals (PDF) directly via email to the Workshop Chairs (yi.zeng@ia.ac.cn, ramanathana@ornl.gov, and bbrunton@uw.edu). Tutorial/symposium/special session proposals should include the following elements: - Title of the tutorial/symposium/special session - Names of the tutorial/symposium/special session organizers, affiliation, mailing address, e-mail - A description of the topics of the Tutorial/symposium/special session (approx. 250 words) - Type of the symposium/special session (whether it will accept full-papers or abstracts, see below) - A description of how the Tutorial/symposium/special session will contribute to the field - A short description on how the Tutorial/symposium/special session will be advertised so as to ensure a sufficiently wide range of authors and high quality papers - A list of reviewers or program committee members for the symposium/special session contributions, and a brief description of how the review process will be conducted. Workshop/special session organizers can get a free registration if more than 8 papers are included and registered. Tutorial organizers can get a free registration if more than 20 participants are registered. *** Submission Types *** Similar to the main conference, there are 2 types of paper submissions that are possible, namely: TYPE I: Full Paper Submissions Papers need to have up to 10 pages in LNCS format. All full-length papers accepted (and all special sessions' full length papers) will be published by Springer as a volume of the series of LNCS/LNAI. TYPE II: Abstract Submissions Abstracts have a word limit of 500 words. Experimental research is particularly welcome. Accepted abstract submissions will be included in the conference program and will be published as a single, collective proceedings volume. - Title: Include in the title of the abstract all words critical for a subject index. Write your title in sentence case (first letter is capitalized; remaining letters are lower case). Do not bold or italicize your full title. - Authors: List all authors who contributed to the work discussed in the abstract. The presenting author must be listed in the first author slot of the list. Be prepared to submit contact information as well as conflict of interest information for each author listed. - Abstract: Enter the body of the abstract and attach any applicable graphic files or tables here. Do not re-enter the title, author, support, or other information that is collected in other steps of the submission form. *** Publication *** The organizers of approved workshops/symposiums/special sessions are required to announce the call for papers, assign papers to PC members for reviewing and decide upon the final program. Accepted Type 1 papers will be included in the BIH'16 conference proceedings to be published by Springer as a volume of the LNCS/LNAI series. The organizers are also welcome to prepare a book proposal based on the topics of the workshop/special session for possible book publication in the Springer Brain Informatics & Health book series. *** Post-Conference Journal Publication *** The BIH conferences have formal ties with the Brain Informatics journal (Springer). Accepted papers from the conference, including their Best Paper Award papers, will be expanded and revised for possible inclusion in the Brain Informatics journal each year. It is fully sponsored and no article-processing fee is charged for BIH authors. High quality papers from workshops/special sessions will be selected and considered for publication in special issues of international journals after their papers are extended to a journal-length paper and pass a review process. Tutorial organizers are invited to submit survey papers to the BI journal, and they will be published in the journal after a rigorous review process.
