Positions of RA/Postdoctoral Fellow at CityU (CFD, Urban Meteorology)

Positions of Research Assistant/Postdoctoral Fellow are available in the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong by Dr. Keith NGAN (香港城市大学, 能源与环境学院,RA及博后职位开放申请) 一. Research topics are as following: (两项研究课题如下) 1. Research Assistant Urban Pollutant Dispersion As part of the project "Ventilation and Mixing Timescales for Urban Air Quality", funded by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, the appointee will (i) perform building-resolving simulations of several Hong Kong neighbourhoods using the large-eddy simulation model, PALM; (ii) develop an adjoint model using the computational fluid dynamics package, OpenFOAM; (iii) test the applicability of stochastic mixing models. Candidates should have a MSc in physics, mechanical engineering, atmospheric science or applied mathematics. Programming experience with a language such as Python, C++ or Fortran 95 is essential. Experience with large-eddy simulation is highly desirable. Familiarity with adjoint methods would be advantageous. https://www6.cityu.edu.hk/see/jobs.htm#keith_postdoc1 2.Postdoctoral Fellowship/Research Assistant in Urban Air Quality As part of the project "Quantifying the regional and local contributions to particulate concentrations in deep street canyons", to be funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund and the Woo Wheelock Green Fund, the appointee will use an atmospheric mesoscale model (WRF) and a building-resolving computational fluid dynamics model (PALM) to analyse the vertical profile of particulate concentrations under different scenarios. The work will be carried out in collaboration with Dr. Zhi Ning and Prof. Peter Brimblecombe from SEE, who will lead related projects on in situ measurements and policy formulation. Candidates should have a MSc or PhD in physics, mechanical engineering or atmospheric science. Experience with computational fluid dynamics and/or atmospheric mesoscale models is essential.
