Clay content mediated the response of the community to eDNA addition (Per-MANOVA, eDNA clay, F ¼ 4.9, p < 0.01), and these relationships changed with time (eDNA time, clay time, F > 1.5, p < 0.01,Fig. 3). After only three days, the bacterial communities clustered by treatment on the PCoA diagram, and consistent trends were observed by day 13, when clay treatment was associated with separation on PCoA Axis1 and eDNA addition caused a shift along PCoA Axis 2 in control and clay amended soils.
