Salary: negotiable dependent on qualifications and prior experience. Job Description: The position is immediately available. The successful candidate will work on a federal funded phase I project with the goal to develop a microbial composition-assisted particulate matter (PM) source apportionment method for animal farms and neighboring communities. Field PM sampling is a major part of the project. However, a graduate student has been hired to coordinate the field sampling effort (with two undergraduate students). The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Drs. Xufei Yang (who directs the Air Quality Research Lab) and Jose Gonzalez (who leads the SDSU’s Genomics Sequencing Facility). She/he will have a chance to collaborate with a research team at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on the same project. Requirements: • Ph.D. in microbiology, environmental engineering/science, veterinary science, soil science, or other related disciplines • Research experience with 16S rRNA or shotgun metagenomic sequencing and relevant taxonomic analysis. • Self-motivated, able to work independently in a multidisciplinary collaborative environment • Good oral and written communication skills Preferred but not required: • Prior publications about aerobiology • A basic understanding of air quality and particulate matter How to apply? Salary: negotiable dependent on qualifications and prior experience. Job Description: The position is immediately available. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team to develop an innovative sensing platform for agricultural applications such as food safety and preservation and meat rating. Besides VOCs sensing, the platform will likely involve other sensing technologies such as image analysis, impedance analysis, and pycnometry, and be integrated through AI-assisted big data analytics. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Zhengrong Gu who runs a well-funded and highly productive research group at SDSU with currently two postdocs and eight (?) graduate students. Requirements: • Ph.D. in engineering, chemistry, material sciences, or other related disciplines • Research experience with gas sensor development and VOCs analysis (e.g., GC-MS or E-nose). • Self-motivated, able to work independently in a multidisciplinary collaborative environment • Good oral and written communication skills Preferred but not required: • Experience with measurement system development, LabVIEW and C++.
