This is a story I written
When I walked to the +++ last Sunday morning, I saw two squirrels in the middle of the road. One of them lay perfectly still on the pavement, looking dead. The other one was sitting up beside the dead body with his little paws in the air and his tail twitching quickly back and forth. As I got closer, I expected the live one to run away, but he just looked at me until I stopped to take pictures. Then he crept furtively to the other side of the road. From there, he sat up again and continued watching me.
It was hot, and I was late, so I walked on. I was still curious about what would happen, though, so I looked back. The live one crept back to sit beside the dead body, still twitching his tail. I stopped again, wondering what these two squirrels were to each other. Friends? Mates? Parent and child? No matter what they were, I thought I could feel the love between them.
I went on to my office to drop off my backpack. Then I just had to go back and see what had happened after I left. When I got to the same spot, I saw a hawk eating something beside the road. It made me sad, but I knew this was nature's way. I hoped the live squirrel got away. |
