Comments from the editors and reviewers: -Reviewer 1 - The revised manuscript was almost completely rewritten. The structure of the text and presentation of results has improved, nevertheless I found that there are still some issues: 1. the level of English is inadequate, 2. the text contains invalid information (e.g. description of cracks in the introduction), 3. illustrations and diagrams sometimes does not correspond to the experimental setup (e.g. Fig. 9, Fig. 11.). The errors and misconceptions contained in the text are all relatively small and fixable, but there is simply too many of them. I would recommend the authors following: 1. consult the text with someone with background in material engineering and elastic wave propagation, 2. pay attention to English syntax and consider finding someone capable of proofreading your text. Overall the research is worthy of investigation and the results seem reasonable. What is surprising is to observe an increase of second harmonic amplitude when low frequency excitation is present. In theory, the harmonics should be independent of the other frequency. Also I would suggest conducting a supporting experiment with low frequency excitation away from the crack area. That would be helpful to assess the suitability of the method for NDT purposes. |
