Title: Remote sensing of vegetation to detect CO2 leak from carbon capture and storage (CCS) Job description: The Environmental Ecology Lab at Seoul National University is seeking one postdoctoral fellow to develop a remote sensing tool that can detect potential CO2 leak from CCS (Carbon Capture and Sequestration) facilities at an early stage. This job requires 1) measuring physiological/structural/spectral properties in leaf to canopy in an experimental site, 2) developing remote sensing tools to detect plant responses to CO2 leak in CCS, and 3) testing in landscape scale in another experimental site using spectral sensing network and drone. We have a collaborator who conducts controlled experiment with varying soil [CO2] (i.e. CO2 enrichment study in the soils, not in the air) and water, and one PhD student who takes the lead in developing spectral sensing network. It is well possible to extend this study to understand how and what type of vegetation stress could be detected via remote sensing. We are equipped with a series of hyperspectral sensors, SiF system, monitoring PAM system, leaf gas exchange instruments, canopy structure measurement instruments. The candidate will be responsible in conducting field trips, attending international meetings to report our findings, and writing scientific papers. Qualifications: A PhD in ecophysiology, biometeorology, remote sensing or a related field is required. Strong background in photosynthesis, leaf traits, and remote sensing are required. Moderate to excellent skills in English are expected. Driving license is essential. General information: Seoul National University is located in the Gwanak Mountain, southern part of the Seoul City in South Korea. Numerous mountain trails are accessible in the campus whereas “Gangnam”, the center of amusement in Seoul, is within 30 min. There are diverse groups of international students/scholars. There is a dormitory for international scholars. This is a 1-year position. Pending successful performance, the position may be renewed up to 3 years.
