Control of electrocatalytic activity of hydrogen producing electrode
Since fossil fuels are not renewable and human uncontrolled exploitation, fossil fuels will eventually dry up. At the same time, the combustion of fossil fuels has caused great harm to the environment. Therefore, the need for developing clean and sustainable alternative energy is imminent. Hydrogen has become the focus of research because of its high calorific value, clean and renewable features. Hydrogen is the most abundant element on the earth, but hydrogen is mostly in the form of compound and present in water. Electrolysis or photolysis of water is a promising method for hydrogen production. How to make clean, nonpolluting, cheap hydrogen producing electrode with superior catalytic efficiency is the most important research project in the field.  Currently, the most efficient catalyst for hydrogen production is still the noble metal platinum and its composite materials. Scientists in the world are actively developing a variety of platinum composite electrodes, and are making progresses. This study showed that we can also improve the electrocatalytic activity of other electrode materials, and provide a new idea for designing more efficient hydrogenproducing catalyst.
