A double red cell donation is an automated process that allows the donor to give two units of red blood cells in one visit. In this two-step process, two units of red cells are collected from the donor and other blood components like plasma are returned to the donor. A double red cell donation takes 30 to 40 minutes; the entire visit takes about an hour and 15 minutes, a bit longer than a whole blood donation.
