PhD position at Applied Optics + Soft Matter Group (ANU)

Highly motivated students with keen interest in interdisciplinary optics research are welcome to join our highly multidisciplinary and growing research laboratory at the Australian National University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS). Our group is focused on developing new optical devices, optical imaging and manipulation tools for soft matter system (biological, polymers etc). We actively collaborate with physicists, engineers and medical scientists. ANU Research School of Physics (RSPE), John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR), ANU Research School of Biology (RSB), ARC centre of Excellence for Advanced Molecular Imaging and Garvan Institution of Medical Research. ANU is a world leading university that is consistently ranked at the top of international and Oceania league tables. CECS tops Australia in 2013 QS World University Rankings in electronic engineering. Project: Available upon contact Requirements - Candidate must hold at least Bachelors degree with at least upper second-class honours, or a Masters degree with a research component or equivalent from a recognised university; Australian and and New Zealand Citizens; Permanent Resident of Australia; International student. - The candidate should have a proven track record of excellence in academic research (journal publications, international conference presentation). - Areas of studies that will preferred in this project are: biomedical engineering, photonics, physics, Electronics or related fields. . Experience in optical design, general experimental design, light scattering in turbid media and basic scientific programs (e.g. Matlab, LabView, C/C++) are highly desired. Additional information are available Funding - 1 Scholarship (A$23,728 on 2012 rate) per annum tax free, in fortnightly payments is available.
