前几天突然收到以下邮件

Dear Professor XXX

Please allow me to briefly introduce myself as one of the Books Commissioning Editors at the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology). We are one of the world’s largest professional bodies of engineers and technologists with over 150,000 members in 127 countries.

We are looking to publish new books in the area of XXX– and you have been recommended to me as an expert in this field. Would you be interested in either editing or authoring a book on this area, related to your research interests? An edited book would bring together chapters written by a range of researchers working in the topic providing an overview and covering the state-of-the-art of current research, developments and applications for a readership of researchers and research-led engineering practitioners. As editor you would identify and invite the contributors, and collate their chapters into a book (so the workload is much less than if you were an author – similar to editing a journal special issue). If you would prefer to write a more focussed book on your own specific area of expertise then we would be interested to hear more about that too.

We offer competitive royalty rates and will fully support you at all stages of our professional production process. Our books are marketed and sold globally, and simultaneously appear both in print and as ebooks. As we are a not-for-profit organisation, all of the surplus we make from our books is used to provide activities and products for the engineering community – conferences, publications, magazines, scholarships, certification, professional development, and advocacy to governments to promote the positive role of science, engineering and technology in the world.
