The political, economic and cultural functions of sports events were (sorted out and) summarized utilizing literature, expert interviews and logical analysis and other methods. Based on our above findings, we performed an in-depth study and research on the relationship between sports events and urban development. Our studies found that there was a strong association between sports events and urban development, i.e., on the one hand, both major sports events and professional sports events were hosted by and dependent upon cities, on the other hand, major sports events and professional sports events were also intrinsically needed in the development processes of the cities. Based on the analysis of the pros and cons of major sports events and professional sports event, together with the analysis of the economic resources and construction of sports stadium, we proposed that the major sports events should be considered as a trigger for the development of urban sports activities. Therefore, we could eventually build a comprehensive professional sports system and develop our sports economics. |
