  Abstract:  An irreversible double resonance energy selective electron (ESE) heat engine model with heat leakage between the two electron reservoirs is established. The main performance parameters such as power output, efficiency, entropy generation rate and ecological function of the heat engine are derived by using the combination of statistic mechanics and finite time thermodynamic theory. The ecological performance of the ESE heat engine are analyzed and optimized; the optimal regions for power output, efficiency and ecological function as well as the relations among them are obtained by numerical calculations. The effects of design parameters such as heat leakage, central energy, resonance width, and energy spacing on the optimal performance are further explored. The results can provide theoretical guidance for the design and operation of practical electron engine system such as multi-barrier solid state thermionic refrigeration devices.
