[求助] 关于XPS图的问题

投稿返修,审稿人说: XPS experimental details are not correct. XPS spectra shown in the manuscript are not acquired with Mg Ka X-ray source. The instrument name sounds strange. The intensities of the C1s and O1s peak in survey spectrum (Fig 2a) do not correspond to the «trace amount» of carbon and oxygen. Such intensities would give more than 10 at.% of those elements on the surface. Hydrocarbons do not contain oxygen, so their adsorption on the surface can not explain the presence of O1s peak in the survey spectrum. It looks like the Ag3d spectrum deconvolution into components (Fig 2c) is not correct at all. If we sum Ag+ and Ag0 components the resulting curve will not fit experimental spectrum. This experimental spectrum consists of two symmetrical lines (Ag3d5/2 and Ag3d3/2), which would be easily fitted only with one component for each line. For example Ag+ component provides a good fit for Ag3d5/2 line in the spectrum except that we should increase Lorentzian and decrease Gaussian profile contribution to the component. As a result the Ag3d spectrum does not confirm the presence of two chemical states of Ag atoms on the surface of studied sample.

这位审稿人应该对XPS很熟悉,主要质疑了两点。1)从survey上看,有含量不低的C和O(不能认为是"trace amount"),需要解释来源。2)对Ag curve fitting的解释可能有误。审稿人认为,对于Fig 2c里面的Ag3d是无法进行curve fitting的。我个人觉得审稿人说得有道理,Ag+和Ag0的BV值相差太小,XPS是无法分辨Ag的这两种价态的。如果楼主能提供其他的证据,也许能够说服审稿人。

XPS spectra shown in the manuscript are not acquired with Mg Ka X-ray source(从全谱上可以分辨出是不是Mg Ka源,但是你没有给出800eV以后的曲线,所以我看不出来是不是MgKa源,你自己确认一下吧。如果给出0-1300eV的全谱,可轻易判断出是什么源).
The instrument name sounds strange(XPS测试设备就那么几种,你是不是把设备名字写错了?).
The intensities of the C1s and O1s peak in survey spectrum (Fig 2a) do not correspond to the 琀爀愀挀攀 amount of carbon and oxygen. Such intensities would give more than 10 at.% of those elements on the surface. Hydrocarbons do not contain oxygen, so their adsorption on the surface can not explain the presence of O1s peak in the survey spectrum. (C 、O含量太高,不是你所说的“微量的C、O”,如果是C、H化合物,那么就不应该有这么多O,所以O的来源你没说清楚。干嘛要说“微量的C、O”,给自己找麻烦,如果样品暴露过大气下,一般都说是表面在大气中吸附的有机污染物,或是在XPS测试系统中吸附的有机污染物,这样C、O就都解释了。另外,遇到这种情况,应该用XPS系统自带的Ar离子枪对样品表面进行适当刻蚀,去除表面有机污染。)
