Summer school "Stress & Cognition” Each year, the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour organizes a highly prestigious international summer school in cognitive neuroscience, bringing together world-leading scientists and outstanding students. The topic of this year's summer school is Stress & Cognition: From basic mechanisms to psychopathology. The event will take place in the week of August 11-15, 2014, on the campus of Radboud University in Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands. The aim of this summer school is to gather together junior and senior scientists to promote integration of knowledge, theory, and methodology across different levels of analysis. A series of high-profile speakers will address recent developments on the impact of stress on cognitive functions such as learning and memory, illustrate different methods and findings, and discuss how the molecular, cellular, and functional effects of stress may trigger or precipitate neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. The summer school will span five days and cover the following topics: • Day 1: Stress hormone effects on learning and memory • Day 2: Early life stress and gene x environment interactions • Day 3: Human neuroimaging of stress and emotion • Day 4: Stress-related psychopathology • Day 5: Neurotechnological developments and future perspectives The summer school is targeted at national and international graduate students and junior postdocs (limited to 50) who work on a related topic and wish to learn about the state-of-the-art and cutting-edge developments in knowledge and skills related to animal or human research into stress. The program will consist of lectures, lab tours, discussions in small groups, and a variety of social activities. Confirmed speakers: • James L.
