[交流] Anybody tell me why we learn English

After learning so many years of English,then find English is useless for my job.Now returning to campus for further educate,takeing a post graduate degree.I need study English again.So as the tile shows anyone who would like answer the question,more how do you learn English.

My three cents why we learn English
1. A skill one may or may not use in his/her life. This is exactly the case as math, driving, computer programming, pinyin, ... Having English skills can make life a lot easier. This is the practical perspective. That is why during different periods of time, different foreign languages became popular (more beneficial for whatever the purpose). Most of us cannot escape from this.
2. A fashion much like the web language people use to demonstrate one's attitude, value and inclination, or dialect from Taiwan or elsewhere. For example, speaking French was considered a symbol of high status, not necessarily because it was beneficial (could have been naturally).
3. A hobby - just like people enjoy growing flowers, collecting stamps/stones/... These people do not seem to benefit from speaking/using English, nor do they feel more respected by doing so. Rather they take a genuine interest in and passionate about the language.
