DON'T stand guard at tourist spots.
DON'T listen to young people say: "like... like...." or athlete say: "uh, you know.... you know...."

DO target easy-to-understand TV scripts of, say, "Friends"

Download or watch a few episodes online.  Compare the actors' reading with your own.

DON'T try to be perfect.  So long as your inner voice responds the same way the actors do, you're making progress.
  Strive for a relaxed and natural first reaction.  If a tourist asks: "Where's the best restaurant around here ?"  You can say: "I know a great spot ___ blocks from here."  James Bond would say that, why won't you ?

Anyways, take advantage of the internet and don't limit yourself to old methods of learning.
