Wisdom and intelligence

As we known, children who get high mark in examination is considered intelligent. Both teachers and parents pay high attention to them who is regarded as capable of outstanding achievements in the future. But much data indicates it is not a certain relation between intelligence and achievement. It is no doubt who can get high scores in math or other science courses elucidate the one has strong logical capability and rapid data computational ability. Also, who can master social science courses well prove he is good at concluding and a whole situation knowing. They, however, who mentioned before always faced a same problem of they are deemed intelligent but have no solution to actual questions. Can we reach a conclusion that there is much different between wisdom and intelligence. Intelligence is the one has good gifts in various capabilities. Whereas these capabilities never are practiced by practical cases, they will be pure gifts to someone and merely can be used in exam at the maximum. We have been told endless basal knowledge in school lessons, and never been taught how to solve our problems with this knowledge. A classical story, Watt, a great scientist, who invent steam engine from boiling water——common phenomenon goes through hundreds years. It is not only intelligence but also wisdom. Wisdom is not a easy thing you can get. We often believe wisdom is a strong power can settle problems what you faced. It is quite different from intelligence, for it is a integrated set of intelligence, knowledge, experience, field of vision, also confidence, perseverance and other internal character, and always accompany with creation and practical purpose. This capability is called ‘Tao’ in Chinese culture. The process of obtaining this capability is called ‘AskTao’. In ancient China, it is thought the one can become immortal who arrives the end of the way of ‘Tao’. We are the smartest nation in the world, and there is the most information injected in our education. But, unfortunately, the best invention and the best research are not in our country. The most urgent problem need to be resolved is to make children understand how to connect to real life with what they learn from school besides endless homework. |
